About the Company

OVERVIEW

Japan International Broadcasting Inc. (JIB) was established in April of 2008 as a subsidiary of Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK).

Distribution

The company is the official distribution agent for two international television services.

NHK WORLD/jibtv is a broadcasting service in English. It provides hourly news and programs about life and society in Japan and Asia.

NHK WORLD Premium, a Japanese-language broadcasting service, transmits programs selected mostly from NHK's domestic channels.

* Production

JIB produces original programs individually and in cooperation with NHK, domestic commercial broadcasters, and production companies.

PROGRAMMING

NHK WORLD/jibtv broadcasts programs about Japan and Asia to the world in English.

Hourly news.

Newscasts are aired on the hour, around the clock. NEWSLINE is produced by NHK WORLD, the international broadcasting service of Japan's public broadcaster, NHK. The news programs are 30 minutes through most of the day but somewhat shorter during the late-night hours and weekends in Japan. They feature reports from NHK bureaus across Asia.

Life & society.

The influence of Japan and Asia around the world is considerable, in matters as diverse as business & technology and fashion & entertainment. The lineup of NHK WORLD/jibtv includes a variety of programs devoted to these subjects, and many more. Cooking, current affairs, and culture—both contemporary and traditional—are among the array of topics featured throughout the day.

SCHEDULE

Serving a global audience, NHK WORLD/jibtv has arranged its schedule to ensure that viewers are able to enjoy the full range of offerings no matter what their time zone may be. Programs, other than news, are broadcast in six-hour cycles.

DISTRIBUTION

NHK WORLD/jibtv is available to 24 hour coverage in approximately 379.1 million households in 160 regions and countries worldwide. (As of September 30, 2024).
The growth has been dramatic since its founding, and the company is continually working to expand availability.

Satellite broadcasting

With the goal of being as accessible as possible, NHK WORLD/jibtv supplements C-band satellite broadcasting with regionally directed Ku-band signals that can easily be received with a small dish antenna. It also makes use of facilities for retransmission to terrestrial and cable broadcasters around the world. The channel is available in both Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) formats.

*Internet

JIB is expanding its presence on the Internet, as broadband technology makes web-based viewing a more satisfying experience. Some original JIB programs are available for viewing as VOD (Video On-Demand).
