A New Hub of Innovation for the Future
Information
Shimizu Corporation, one of Japan's major general contractors, has launched a new company base to develop innovation and talent called "NOVARE." This initiative began in response to the severe challenges facing Japan's construction industry, including the significant decline in the workforce and the increase in laborers getting older.
In constructing the NOVARE facility, Shimizu Corporation focused on digital transformation (DX) across various construction processes, adopting advanced technologies including the newest 3D printers and welding robots, as well as utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) to achieve thorough labor-saving and efficiency improvements.
The completed innovation hub, NOVARE, transcends traditional construction practices, with the goal of optimizing manufacturing in order to contribute to societal development, with an eye toward 50 to 100 years into the future. Some key areas of NOVARE include the Omotezashiki, the main building of the Former Shibusawa Residence, designed and constructed by the second generation of the Shimizu founding family, the Research Facility, focused on structural and material innovations as well as robotics, an Information and Exchange Facility that brings together both inner and external innovational activities, and a Hands-On Training Facility, equipped with full-scale mock-ups of construction sites for students to learn practical construction management.
This program showcases how Shimizu Corporation is sharing its spirit of manufacturing and its commitment to future advancements through its innovation hub, NOVARE.
