Series Information

This is the second ASEAN Now and the Future series. The first aired in November 2017 to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of ASEAN. The theme was ASEAN Now and the Future: Connectivity and Economic Corridors. The TV broadcasters in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam, which produced the series, looked at how the economies and livelihoods in their respective countries have been affected by the cooperation between ASEAN and Japan and by Indochina’s East-West and Southern Economic Corridors. The series aired in Cambodian, Lao, Burmese, and Vietnamese, while NHK World aired the English-language edition to audiences across the globe.
The theme for the second series is ASEAN Now and the Future Ⅱ: Discover New Buena Vista. This series involved a new set of partners. It was produced by TV broadcasters in Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, with advice from visiting program production experts from NHK International in Japan. It features little-known attractions of these respective countries. Upon the completion of the local versions, the production staff came to Japan for on-the-job training to produce the English-language edition.
