Bringing Japanese-Quality Homes to the World
The Challenge of Enriching Lifestyles

Information
In 1950, Typhoon Jane struck Japan’s Kansai region, damaging 120,000 homes, and completely destroying an estimated 20,000.
Among the 870,000 people who were affected by the disaster, one firsthand witness was Nobuo Ishibashi.
In 1955, postwar turmoil was causing a severe housing shortage, and inspired by rice stalks and bamboo bending but not breaking in strong winds, Ishibashi founded Daiwa House Industry Co., LTD. and developed a building called a "pipe house".
These pipe houses were made from prefabricated steel pipes for frames and walls, which could be assembled on-site.
This concept of the industrialization of construction made a significant contribution to solving the housing shortage at the time.
70 years since its founding, Daiwa House Industry Co., LTD now operates in 25 countries and regions around the world, working tirelessly so that we might enjoy richer, more fulfilling lives.
In the U.S., the company is addressing housing shortages in so-called “smile zones” through 3 core group companies.
In Australia, they are launching new urban development projects with a focus on proximity between workplaces and homes.
This program showcases how Daiwa House Industry Co., LTD today is applying the expertise it has developed over its nearly 70 years in real estate development to enrich lives around the world.
