J-SPORTS

The “Host Town” initiative is a project that aims for regional revitalization through cultural, economic, and athletic exchange between residents of countries and regions participating in the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. Honjo City in Saitama Prefecture is the host town of Turkey’s Para Taekwondo National Team, and will host them for pre-games training camp. This segment features the city’s activities such as holding a blind soccer class experience for local children in aims to achieve an inclusive society where both people with and without disabilities support each other.

Kitakata, a city in Fukushima Prefecture, is well known in Japan for its delicious ramen and sake, and locals are determined to take its fame onto the world stage. In this segment, Zoe Vincent, who had lived in the area for 4 years, learns what makes Kitakata's ramen and sake special, and what the community is doing to share the appeal of these local specialties with international visitors.

Kagurazaka in Tokyo is a place where Japanese traditional and contemporary shops co-exist in harmony. In this segment, we visit Kagurazaka’s atmospheric and maze-like backstreet alleys where you can sometimes hear the ambient music of the Japanese Shamisen string instrument.

J-NATURE

There are currently 34 national parks throughout Japan. In this segment, we follow Janni Olsson and nature guides as they visit Akan-Mashu National Park in northern Japan and encounter natural phenomena that occur only during wintertime while exploring the culture of the indigenous Ainu peoples.
