J-AGRICULTURE
Frost damage to tea farms, as well as fruits such as apples and grapes is a problem seen worldwide. This segment features the development of an anti-frost agent that uses polyphenols extracted from coffee grounds, which were being discarded after manufacture of canned coffee.
J-ECO
Surrounding Mt. Fuji are forests of natural broadleaf-trees and artificially planted coniferous trees. However, due to cheap imported timber, the manmade coniferous forests are hardly used today. This segment features a project to restore a forest back to an environment teeming with life and biodiversity.
J-STREET
In Tokyo’s Sangenjaya district, there is an old block called “Sankaku-chitai.” It’s made up of maze-like backstreets where you can feel like you’ve slipped back in time, and witness both old and new lifestyles side by side. We follow Photographer Yamaguchi Masahiro as he revisits Sangenjaya for the first time in six years.
