Information

Fukushima Prefecture's Kawamata is known as the “Town of Silk” for its production of the thin and light fabric. However, its signature agricultural product, Kawamata Silk, has suffered setbacks against low-priced silk produced overseas. The March 11, 2011 disaster gave business even more to worry about. Manufacturers are hoping to restore their status by selling their fabric, the thinnest silk in the world, across the globe.
