Bonsai, one of Japan’s traditional arts, is growing in popularity as an international art in recent years. The Omiya Bonsai Village in Saitama Prefecture is particularly garnering attention from abroad. The village is known to be the central hub where Bonsai masters and masterpieces gather. The Bonsai Art Museum, the world’s first public art museum dedicated to Bonsai, was launched here in 2010. The museum exhibits an array of Bonsai masterpieces, related works of art and information regarding Bonsai history. Saitama will be hosting the “WBFF The 8th World Bonsai Convention Ein 2017, for the second time since 1989. The program features the time-honored Bonsai gardens in the village, Bonsai’s enduring appeal and the efforts being made as it takes a leap into the international market.
