Information
In the 50 years since it first came into service, Japan's Shinkansen has carved out a history as one of the world's most reliable high-speed rail services, boasting a high safety level, and average delays of less than one minute. In order to maintain safety on the high-speed network, level crossings have been eliminated and an automatic train control (ATC) mechanism put in place, while circumstances nationwide are constantly monitored from the Shinkansen General Control Center. Furthermore, while the Series 0 Shinkansen introduced in 1964 had a top speed of 210 km/h, the latest models can reach up to 320 km/h. In this program, we bring you the latest from the “9th World Congress on High Speed Rail”, and examine the appeal of the safe, reliable Shinkansen.
