Views From Japan
Information
How should we regard the reemergence of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States?
Two leading figures of Japan’s top think tanks hold deep discussions in the new year of 2025.
One is Sasae Kenichiro, President of the Japan Institute of International Affairs, who witnessed the birth of the first Trump administration as Japan's Ambassador to the U.S. and provided behind-the-scenes support for the forming of friendly ties between President Trump and Prime Minister Abe. The other is Sunami Atsushi, who studied political science in New York, specializes in science and technology policy in Japan, and now leads one of Japan’s largest private think tanks, traveling the world as
a key figure in public diplomacy.
How will President Trump’s return affect the worsening conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and the situation in the Middle East, as well as Asia, including China and the Korean Peninsula? Furthermore, how will he face the rising Global South? Is the Japan-U.S. security treaty set to undergo changes? And what is the global role Japan should play during the second Trump administration?
This program will feature a dialog between two of Japan’s leading experts.
