Part 3: Philippines & Singapore
The third episode of ASEAN Now and the Future Ⅱ: Discover New Buena Vista was produced by the Philippines’ public broadcaster People’s Television Network (PTV) and Singapore’s Mediacorp.
The Philippines’ component looks at the twenty wind turbines that draw visitors to Ilocos Norte in Luzon, the flourishing English education sector, and the 2,000-year-old rice terraces of the Ifugao people, which are being preserved with aid from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The Singaporean component features the Housing Development Board, which provides housing to 80% of the population, and the Neighbourhood Police Posts, modelled after Japan’s koban police boxes, which help keep the housing blocks safe. It also features Hawker food, which has evolved from the blending of Indian, Chinese, and Malay cuisines. Viewers are also taken on a small adventure on the Park Connector Network, the network of cycling paths that span the city state.
