多種多様な自然のなかで、地域独自の歴史や文化を作り出してきた日本の国立公園。北は北海道、南は沖縄までその土地の特徴を持った国立公園は３４あります。このシリーズでは、それぞれの国立公園を訪ね、そこで生きる人々の営みと、千変万化する自然の姿を伝えます。
今回訪れるのは、慶良間諸島国立公園。日本の最南端、沖縄県の沖縄本島から西方約40kmの地点に位置する大小30余りの島々と数多くの岩礁からなる島嶼群です。そのうち、「渡嘉敷島」「座間味島」「阿嘉島」「慶留間島」を巡ります。
