Facing the Sea of Japan, Fukui Prefecture is a region with abundant nature, a factor that has helped give birth and nurture local craftsmanship that stood the test of time and gained recognition all over Japan, and even around the globe. From March 2024, Fukui will be connected to Tokyo via bullet train.
This program explores crafting traditions from beautiful washi paper beloved by artists worldwide to hand-forged kitchen knives that have their roots in the samurai swords of yore and are now used by first-class chefs in and out of Japan. Join us and discover the legacy of craftsmanship unique to Fukui.
