The Heart of Fukui

ZEN

Information

In Fukui Prefecture, Zen is more than tradition—it's a way of life. This film explores the spirit of Zen, a Japanese tradition that has captivated the world. At Eiheiji, one of Japan's most renowned Zen temples, monks carry on the traditional way of practice through Zen meditation, daily rituals, and Buddhist cuisine. A rare opportunity was granted to film the Zen practice that has been passed down for nearly 800 years. Zen lives on beyond the temple. At Awara Onsen, it takes shape through omotenashi, the Japanese art of hospitality — expressed in ikebana, Japanese gardens, and kaiseki cuisine, all deeply connected to the spirit of Zen.
Through the four seasons, we explore the beauty of Zen —timeless, present, and woven into the soul of Fukui.
