Kimono evangelist Motoji Keita, who owns kimono fabric shops in Ginza, wants to communicate the traditional garment’s appeal to a wide demographic.
He takes customers who have bought kimono to silk-raising farms to observe the process from thread-making to dyeing. Through this, he hopes to promote the exquisite handiwork that goes into kimono culture.
He is also pursuing new techniques with young artisans, layering tradition with innovation.
