Matsuri Promoter Kato Yuko

Aired: Mar 15, 2024 (UTC)

Information

Matsuri promoter Kato Yuko sees Japanese festivals, or matsuri, as the soul of Japan. However, many could soon disappear due to an aging and shrinking population.
To reverse this trend, Kato founded a company specializing in festival promotion and is involved in over a hundred a year, from nationally-recognized extravaganzas to local events.
Her innovative ideas include selling premium seats for a famous Tohoku festival, organizing ritual dance performances at an aquarium, and creating a permanent stage for matsuri performances at a famous tourist spot in Shinjuku.
We follow her as she takes creative steps to promote Japan’s festivals and bring cheer.
