Trailblazers

Gender Equality Advocate Ogawa Koichi

Aired: May 17, 2024 (UTC)

Information

In 1975, the UN designated March 8 as International Women’s Day. The day celebrates the progress made in women’s rights and provides an opportunity to discuss future actions.
However, according to the Global Gender Gap Index compiled by the World Economic Forum, Japan ranks 125th out of 145 countries.
Gender equality advocate Ogawa Koichi aims to change that. Using International Women’s Day events as a springboard, he’s been partnering with corporations and local governments to promote gender equality in Japan.
